Abstract: This article aims to analyse how the digital media outlet Detik.com constructs public resistance and the negotiation of ecological justice in its coverage of the opposition to sand mining in Bababinanga Village, Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi. This study employs a qualitative approach using Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki’s framing analysis model through four analytical frameworks: syntactic, script, thematic and rhetorical. The research data consists of nine Detik.com news articles published in 2023 relating to the conflict over the rejection of the sand mining project in Pinrang. The results of the study reveal three main findings. Firstly, the news coverage framed mining activities as a threat to the community’s living space through narratives of the risks of coastal erosion, environmental damage and the loss of livelihoods. Secondly, community resistance was constructed as a struggle that evolved from ecological opposition towards a conflict over legal legitimacy through reports, investigations and civil society advocacy. Thirdly, the mining conflict is positioned as an arena for negotiating ecological justice between development interests, the licensing authority and environmental protection. This research demonstrates that the media functions not only as a channel of information, but also as an arena to produce meaning that determines how actors, interests, and environmental claims gain public legitimacy. These findings contribute to the development of environmental communication studies by highlighting the role of media framing in shaping the discourse on natural resource conflicts and by strengthening our understanding of the relationship between the media, local communities, and environmental governance.
